INFERNO CANTICA I

The Canonical Pilgrimage into the Abyss

DANTE'S INFERNO

"Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita mi ritrovai per una selva oscura"

Midway upon the journey of our life, I found myself within a dark forest, for the straightforward pathway had been lost. Descend through the funnel of Hell: from the gates of Dis to the frozen core of Lucifer's Cocytus, reconstructed with cel-shaded ink and medieval fidelity.

DESCEND TO THE GATE
Canto XXXIV, lines 133–139 · The Antipodes

"E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle"

"And thence we came forth to see again the stars."

Having climbed past Lucifer's shaggy hip across the center of Earth's gravitational mass, Dante and Virgil ascended along the hollow channel carved by the subterranean waters of Lethe. They emerge onto the quiet shore of Mount Purgatory under the southern constellations just before dawn on Easter Sunday, 1300.
